2015 Big Event Nationals Report & Results

It was a great weekend of competition at the Big Event Nationals held at the Santé Fe Family Life Center. There were 11 divisions in the event and many games were intense and well coached. It was a thing of joy to see how the coaches had their teams well prepared for play. Many of the teams demonstrated good ball skill spaced the floor well, great team defense and sportsmanship on and off the floor was paramount. 

8U Boys - Hot Boyz

It the 8U boys division the Hot Boyz represented well, these young ballers under the leadership of Roland Miller the former college (East Central University) and professional stand out in Europe, had his team playing well on all cylinders. In the end the score and the championship reflected that with a win over Ball Time, who was also well coached during the tournament.

The Boys 9U - BTR

In this division the talented BTR boys just ran through the competition, this national powerhouse has proven during the weekend why they are among the top ten teams in the country. BTR defeated Edmond Shield in the championship. During the weekend the team showed excellent defense, moved the ball well, and could score in bunches. 

2nd Place - Edmond Shield 

Boys 10U - West Ok Ravens

In the Boys 10U division, it came down to a three way tie in pool play, so one team deservingly, so on team did not have the opportunity to compete for the championship. However the championship, game came down to the West Oklahoma Ravens and BTR. This game went down to the last seconds before a winner evolved. The boys from West Oklahoma took home the Championship trophy. 

Boys 12U - Impact Athletics

This division was deep in talent and some of the top talent on this side of the country was present in the game. There were some young guys worth noting that played in the game that made the division epic.  Some of the individuals who will lead the class of 2021 that participated in the event are Tyler Pinder (Athletes First), Marty Perry(Ok Bulldogs), Jaden Bray (BTR) and Trey Alexander (OKC Elite), Makale Smith (Impact Athletics) and Tobias Roland (Impact Athletics) regulated the interior. There was so much talent, but these five individuals just seem to be a little further ahead right now, but they are still young with time for all their games to mature with the right work.

In term of the games, the final four was tough on one side it was OK Bulldogs matched up against the Impact Athletics. The young guys put on offensive explosion the score ended up being 82 – 80 (WOW). This game could have easily been the championship game. This game was filled with skilled guys on both sides of the ball. In the end Impact Athletics won the game in over time. In the other semifinal match up it was OKC Elite getting past BTR which was a battle all the way to the end. In the finals Impact Athletics defeated OKC Elite in a defensive battle by both teams. 

2nd Place - OKC Elite 

Boys 13U - Spencer Cougars

In the boys 13U division the Spencer Cougars defeated Team 4XIII in what could be considered a very intense game from beginning to end. There were several lead changes that made the win for the Cougars much more delightful. 

Boys 14U - Team I Will

The boys 14U featured Texas Bandits and Team I Will in the finals. The boys from Dallas came to Oklahoma on a mission and that was to take home the Gold trophy. For most of the game the Bandits were proving their case, but Team I Will, found a way to WILL their way to victory in a well-played game by both teams. 

Boys HS Gold Division - Teamwork Oklahoma

The gold division featured the Austin Knights and Teamwork Oklahoma in the championship game. Both teams defended very well in the half court set, and both executed on offense in the half court set. This competitive balance allowed both teams to keep the games close throughout play. In the end the Teamwork was the key to victory for the boys from Oklahoma. 

HS Platinum Division - BTR

The platinum division featured BTR vs the favorite Athletes First, who featured some of the nation’s best players. BTR had one thing on their mind and that was securing the Gold Trophy, they played tough and were led by Kareem Thomas (2017), who was tough defensively and offensively. Anthony Lowe (2017) number 19 in the Gym Time Hoops rankings was big with his play throughout the game, just being effective with those jump hooks and floaters. Greg Thomas (2018) was tough for the team helping them to manage the game. Greg is on to watch as his game continues to mature. In the end the BTR team found a way to slow down Athletes First 16U boys in route to a two point victory. 

Girls 10U Division

It was a great game between the Lady Jazz and OK Lady Thunder, form beginning to end both teams demonstrated a sound level of basketball play. Both teams moved the ball well and played great team defense. In the end Lady Jazz was able to make more baskets to secure the championship. Both teams will be one to watch on the ladies side in the future.

 

Girls 11U

The lady Jazz and Lady Thunder also had two teams in this age group and again the battle was secured by good team basketball. This game displayed a group of players who can score the ball in bunches. Floor spacing was vital to securing the victory for the OK lady Thunder

Girls 12U

The OKC Elite squared off against the Texas Heat Elite, which from the very beginning of this contest was intense and physical. Both teams played high pressure defense on every possession of the ball. Both teams understood how to get the rack and finish through contact in vital situations. The OKC Elite found a way to secure the victory and become the Big Event Nationals CHAMPS.
